French Roulette La Partage: Our Review, How and Where to Play

!DISCLOSURE
Pragmatic Play by Pragmatic Play

French Roulette La Partage is a live dealer roulette table from Pragmatic Play that features the player-friendly La Partage rule. This rule means that players receive half of their stake back if their even money bets lose to a winning 0, which substantially decreases the house advantage for those types of outside wagers. The game is otherwise a classic European-style game with advanced UI features and premium-quality visuals.

If you’ve ever played live roulette before, you’ll know exactly what to expect from this version. It was designed and created as a no-nonsense product for lovers of standard roulette, and it excels in that purpose. In this review, we’ll take a look at the rules, features, and gameplay of French Roulette La Partage and compare it to similar products across the industry. We’ll then rate the game based on how well it stacks up and how good an experience it can provide to players.

Classic roulette is generally available in three distinct variants – American, European, and French. Some modern variations of the game steer away from these established norms, but we’ll stick to the three classic options.

French Roulette is functionally very similar to European roulette, except that it also includes two special rules called La Partage and En Prison. Note that a single table can only use La Partage or En Prison, but never both. This Pragmatic Play variant uses the La Partage, obviously.

Like European Roulette, French Roulette tables feature only a single Zero. This means that the baseline RTP of most available bets is 97.30%, with a 2.70% house edge across the board. However, thanks to the two rules we just mentioned, even-money bets in French Roulette have a house edge of just 1.35%. In terms of long-term profitability, French Roulette is objectively the best version of the game to play either online or otherwise. New types of this popular game have been introduced over the years, but none can match that 98.65% RTP.

If you want to learn more about Pragmatic’s version of a French table and what makes it so good, we’ll explain the odds and features below.

How to Play French Roulette La Partage

This Pragmatic roulette uses industry-standard roulette rules and a typical interface that will be familiar to most experienced players. If you need to brush up on the basics, start with our in-depth live roulette tutorial.

You have around 15 seconds to place your bets between each round. Use the chips to select the size of your stake, then place them on the betting grid to make a wager.

You can also use the re-bet and Autoplay features to make things easier. Re-bet repeats your previous bet or combination of bets. Autoplay repeatedly places the same wager and can be set for up to 100 rounds.

The game accepts all standard roulette bets, including both Inside and Outside options. The type of bet you’re placing depends on the position of your chips on the grid.

After the betting period ends, the dealer spins the wheel and throws the ball into it. The ball eventually settles into one of the numbered pockets, which determines the winning number. While this is happening, the camera will move in for a closer shot, focusing on the ball and where it’s landing. This makes the game look better, but it’s also a good way for players to be sure everything is fair and transparent.

If one or more of your bets cover the winning number, you win a payout depending on the type of bet.

You can also use the alternative racetrack betting table, located to the left of the main grid. This mode allows you to place Sector bets and Call bets.

The La Partage Rule

La Partage means that you get half of your stake back if you lose an even-money bet due to the ball landing on Zero.

To elaborate, even-money bets in roulette are two-sided wagers with a 1:1 payout. In other words, this rule only applies to bets like Red, Black, Odd, Even, Low, and High. If you need to freshen up your knowledge of bets in roulette and how they work, check out this article.

Anyway, if you place such a bet and the ball lands in the green Zero pocket, you get half your stake back. As you may know, the house edge in roulette exists purely because of that green Zero. That’s why the house edge of even money bets in French roulette is halved (and it’s also why the house edge of American roulette is doubled.)

Strategy Tips

Like any game of roulette, French Roulette is strictly a game of chance. Players have no way to influence the outcome. Also, despite the game’s comprehensive tracking of statistics and hot/cold numbers, the results of previous rounds do not impact future results in any way.

As such, players should focus on fundamentals like money management. Split your stake evenly into equal units and carefully budget your spending in order to make your bankroll last as long as possible.

We’ll also cover a few strategy tips for that can help rookies play with a winning strategy:

  • Hedge your bets – A good example would be making one Even Money bet and one Straight-Up bet each round. The Straight-Up bet is there to chase big profits/multipliers. The Even Money bets, on the other hand, are there to keep your bankroll topped up and moving forward.
  • Make use of the La Partage rule – This rule is a big advantage over other types of standard roulette. It makes even money bets considerably better than all other types of wagers. Make sure to include at least one such bet in every round.
  • Combine wagers to increase your likelihood of winning – You can take the ideas of bet-hedging even further by converting as much of the betting table as possible in various bets. The Romanosky bet is a common example because it ensures more than 80% win probability.
  • Ignore hot/cold numbers – Although the stats in the bottom right of the UI can offer interesting insights into the probabilities of roulette, the notion of “hot” and “cold” numbers is a fallacy. Make your decisions based on bet payouts and probability instead.
  • Understand different bets and how they work – Rookies often have only a vague idea of how every bet in roulette works. Make sure you fully understand how different bets are placed, how they work, and how much they pay. This also extends to Call bets such as Zero Game or Orphans.

Payouts & RTP

French Roulette La Partage offers industry-standard payouts for all wagers. In other words, every bet pays as much as it would on any classic roulette table with a European layout.

In short, every bet’s reward is inversely proportional to its probability of winning. The more numbers a bet covers, the more likely it is to win, but the less it pays relative to your stake.

There are no discrepancies in this game’s paytable, which is good to see. However, you should still keep in mind that Even, Odd, Red, Black, 1-18 and 19-36 bets get half their stake back if they lose to a 0, which increases their RTP.

Bet Numbers Covered Payout
Straight Up 1 number 35:1
Split 2 numbers 17:1
Street 3 numbers 11:1
Corner 4 numbers 8:1
Line 6 numbers 5:1
Outside Bets
Dozen/Column 12 numbers 2:1
Red/Black/Even/Odd/1-18/19-36 18 numbers 1:1 (0.5:1 if losing to a 0)

Based on these payouts and odds, Betgames Live Roulette offers exactly 97.30% RTP for every available bet. Again, this is standard for the industry when it comes to European roulette wheels, so no surprises there.

Live Roulette Betting Options Table

Interface & Usability

The betting interface is very similar to those seen in other casino poker games. The various betting positions are placed front and centre, and they’re quite easy to navigate due to the simple and intuitive layout. Making any bet is a simple matter of selecting the desired stake, clicking on the betting position, and confirming your selections.

The Pragmatic interface also provides a lot of info such as useful statistics and results for the previous 200 rounds or so. The so-called Racetrack view is also always available on the left. While useful, it would be nice to have the option of turning these elements off. Many players don’t find them particularly useful and would prefer a cleaner UI and an extra bit of customization.

Graphics & Presentation

Pragmatic Play has been putting out some of the best-looking live dealer games for a while now, and that tradition continues with French Roulette La Partage. To be frank, this game doesn’t offer spectacle like some of Pragmatic’s game shows do. It’s actually a relaxed, serious casino game that’s intended to feel like a real brick-and-mortar casino.

As expected, the game stream is top-notch with a high-definition broadcast running 24/7. All of the action is captured from multiple camera angles. The most prominent ones are the main table view and a close-up shot of the wheel, which makes it easier to follow the ball’s movements. All in all, the game achieves what it sets out to do in terms of presentation, so we can’t ask for more.

Live Dealer Experience

As we just noted, the game is meant to evoke the atmosphere of a classic casino venue. That means that the stream is largely focused, and the presenters are pleasant and focused on the job. In other words, it’s a classic experience, elevated by Pragmatic’s high production value.

The odds of French Roulette are slightly better than standard European-style wheels, but the actual experience of playing these games is largely the same. We have no real complaints here, but we can’t say the gameplay stands out from the crowd either.

Languages

  • Only a single live French Roulette table is currently available with Pragmatic Play, and it’s presented entirely in English
  • That said, you can still change the language of the UI in the settings menu. Available options include Bulgarian, Chinese, Danish, English, French, German, Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese, and more.

Our Verdict

French Roulette is by far the best standard version of the popular Devil’s Wheel, so we welcome another avenue to play it in live casinos.

In terms of gameplay, Pragmatic French Roulette offers a classic experience with standard rules and the usual payouts. No big surprises there, but it means the game has a consistent house advantage and familiar gameplay that will appeal to long-time fans of roulette.

Of course, the La Partage rule is the big highlight of this table, and it’s an excellent addition to improve your odds. Roulette games with this rule enabled are objectively better than those that don’t have it, so it’s easy for us to make a judgment call.

Finally, the looks and presentation of Pragmatic’s games rarely disappoint, so it’s no surprise that French Roulette La Partage Live looks great. It’s not a ground-breaking release in terms of visuals, but it looks nice and runs well, which is all you can expect from a classic game like this.

All in all, if you’re looking to play calssic live roulette at a Pramgatic Play casino, the French table is definietely your best option.

How We Rate Live Roulette Games

Here at Livecasinos.com, how we rate casino games is based on a strict set of standards that were developed over many years of playing and analyzing live dealer games of all sorts. Here are some of the key factors we consider before giving our recommendation:

  • Graphics & Stream Quality – Although visuals are not the most important factor, they certainly matter. Good-looking games create a better and more immersive atmosphere. Moreover, the game’s graphics can set it apart from the competition.
  • UI and User-Friendliness – Well-designed games have intuitive interfaces that are easy to use and access. Our reviews also consider any additional UI elements such as betting options, performance settings, stats and histories, and more.
  • Payouts & RTP – How much your bets win is crucial for determining a casino game’s quality. A higher RTP is always better for us as players, making RTP one of the most objective ways to rate how good a particular game is.
  • Gameplay – This refers to how the game actually plays – whether it’s exciting, fun, engaging, and whether we’ve actually enjoyed playing it.
  • Extra Features – This refers to any added features, such as additional bonuses, multipliers, and UI elements.
  • Platform compatibility – We also rate how well a game performs on mobile devices, apps, etc.
  • Localization and Native-speaking Tables – Games with a lot of language options are more accessible to international audiences, which is why we consider such features as well.
