Incredible graphics, a stunning purpose-built studio, and dedicated presenters bring it all to life – as one would expect from Crazy Time’s successor.

How to Play Funky Time

Funky Time is based around a large wheel. The presenter spins the wheel and the players bet on the results. A typical round is short, sweet, and accessible even to complete beginners.

Your job is to predict which segment of the wheel will land on the pointer at the top. To do so, just select your stake and click on the bets you wish to make.

The wheel is divided into 64 segments. The more one type of segment appears on the wheel, the more likely it is to win. However, less risky bets generally pay less.

Funky Time bets are divided into three types:

Number Bet – The 28 segments marked with the number 1 are the most basic option. A bet on 1 pays a flat 1:1 payout.
Letters Bets – The words PLAY, FUNK, and TIME each appear on the wheel twice. You can bet that the wheel will land on one of the letters found in these words. For example, if you bet on U, you win 25:1 if the pointer lands on one of the two instances of the letter U. Functionally, these bets are identical to number bets – they’re straightforward, instant-win wagers with a flat payout.
Bonus Games – Funky Time features 4 bonus mini-games: Bar, Stayin’ Alive, Disco, and VIP Disco. Each mini-game has its own set of rules.

Bonus Games

To participate in a Funky Time bonus game, you have to place a bet on one or more of the Bonus Game bets. If the wheel lands on the corresponding segment, the mini-game kicks off for players that placed the correct bet.

Bar appears in six segments. You’re taken to a funky bar staffed by a robot. Your job is to pick one of three glasses filled with multipliers. The robot will pour drinks to determine the multiplier amounts for each glass. Essentially, you’re just hoping that you picked a high-paying glass. Additionally, a one-reel slot will spin on the robot’s face and randomly assign another, stackable multiplier to one of the three glasses.
Stayin’ Alive appears twice on the wheel and is a relatively complex game inspired by bingo. You pick a color, which is your team, and watch as the three colored balls advance up a multiplier ladder. A ball-drawing machine is used to determine whether the multiplier the ball advances or not. Each time a team draws a black ball they lose a life, and the game ends for your team once you lose three lives. The further your chosen team makes it up the ladder, the more you win, up to a multiplier of 10,000x.
Disco appears in three segments. It takes place on a 37-square virtual dance floor, on which Mr Funky dances around. The presenter spins a mini wheel to determine which way Mr Funky will go, collecting multipliers along the way. The game ends when he falls off the floor, at which point the collected multipliers are added together and paid out to participating players.
VIP Disco is the same as Disco but with bigger rewards. It only appears in one segment.

The RTP differences between the various bets are minor, all things considered. However, you should pick the ones with higher RTP if you want to play on the safe side. In this case, those include the numbers and the Bar bonus bet.

That said, games like Funky Time are all about fun and excitement. There’s no real strategy to give you an advantage beyond just picking high-RTP bets.

The Letter bets are meant to be combined. For instance, you can bet on the whole word PLAY and cover an entire section of the wheel.

Our Verdict

Funky Time has big shoes to fill, there’s no doubt about that. Currently, it’s competing directly against some of Evo’s most successful titles and other runaway successes such as Sweet Bonanza Candyland.

In terms of the game design itself, Funky Time certainly blows it out of the water. The bonus games especially are good enough to be titles in their own right. Throw in the fleshed-out theme and big payouts, and it seems like a recipe for success.

The only major downside to Funky Time we see is the relatively low RTP. It’s just not good for your expected value, and there’s no getting around that fact.

However, live casino game shows are not about number-crunching. They’re designed as relatively light-hearted, which is also the case here. In short, if you want to try and beat the dealer through strategy, this isn’t the genre for you.

As far as we’re concerned, Funky Time leaves an overwhelmingly positive impression. Whether that will be enough to outshine its predecessor remains to be seen.
