Lightning Bac Bo: Our Review, How and Where to Play

!DISCLOSURE
Evolution by Evolution

Lightning Bac Bo is a live casino game inspired by live baccarat that replaces cards with dice, offering a unique gameplay experience and Evolution’s acclaimed Lightning multipliers. It’s essentially a Lightning variant of Live Bac Bo, an innovative title that Evo released in 2021. Like most games in the Lightning family, it introduces a chance to win big multipliers and potentially massive payouts, but imposes an extra 50% fee on all bets that cover the cost of these bonuses. This makes it a more volatile game overall, which will appeal to the many fans of Lightning games. The core Bac Bo gameplay loop is also quite interesting on its own as a fun dice-based alternative to baccarat.

In this review, we’ll take a close look at Evolution Lightning Bac Bo, how it works, and what it offers in terms of rules and features. We’ll also break down the stats and payouts behind the game while offering tips and advice on how to get the best results while playing it.

Released in 2021, Live Bac Bo is a unique product even by Evolution’s standards. It attracted a lot of attention thanks to its simple premise and flawless execution – it took the fast-paced gameplay and high RTP of live baccarat and switched things up by replacing cards with dice. This made the core gameplay arguably even more accessible while also offering a fresh experience to players, which is a formula that generally works well with live casino games: a familiar casino classic with a refreshing gameplay experience.

We were never under the impression that Bac Bo became all that popular, but perhaps we were wrong. It seems Bac Bo was liked enough to earn a sequel, or what is more accurately described as a spin-off. Lightning Bac Bo takes the same rules and ideas of the original game, but supercharges them with Evolution’s mega-popular Lightning concept.

If you’re (somehow) unfamiliar with them, Evolution Lightning games take established casino games and throw in random multipliers that are typically decided by RNG. This idea was soc successful that almost every major player in the live casino business copied it in one way or another, but it was revolutionary back when Lightning Roulette first appeared.

Back to the matter at hand. For most intents and purposes, Lightning Bac Bo largely works like Lightning Baccarat, except it uses dice instead of cards. If you’re not quite sure how that works, no worries – we’ll explain everything in detail. The upside is that the game still offers a high RTP rate, just like the original. The downside is that all bets are strapped with a 50% fee, which most players won’t enjoy all that much. Either way, though, the game is an exciting combination of two highly innovative ideas, so there are no direct alternatives in the current live casino landscape.

Lightning Bac Bo vs Bac Bo

Lightning Bac Bo is a fairly unique product, so it’s difficult to compare it to other games. While it’s largely inspired by baccarat, it’s mostly similar to the original Bac Bo. If you’re not quite sure which of these two is for you, we’ll compare them directly to give you a clearer picture.

How to Play Lightning Bac Bo

Lightning Bac Bo is virtually identical to the original Bac Bo in terms of its rules, goals, and basic gameplay options. Knowing how to play baccarat will likely make things easier to pick up, but the game is easy to learn and enjoy either way.

The game uses two sets of classic 6-sided dice, and each set is made up of 2 dice. The dice on the left are the Player dice, while the ones on the right are Banker dice.

In every round, the dice are placed in 4 automatic shakers. The dice start shaking at the same time during the 15-second betting period, but stop at different times. This builds tension and excitement, but it doesn’t really affect the outcomes or gameplay in any meaningful way.

Once all four results are revealed, they are compared to each other. Whichever set of dice has the higher total result wins.

For example, if the value of the Player’s combined dice results is higher than the value of the Banker’s combined results, Player wins.

Unlike in baccarat, Player and Banker bets have the exact same chance of winning any round. Both bets also offer a base payout of 1:1.

Additionally, you can also predict that the round will result in a Tie. In other words, the Tie bet wins if the sum total of the Player dice is the same as the total shown by Banker bets. Tie bets in this game have a unique paytable that offers higher payouts for less probable results. For example, Ties of 2 or 12 pay a base reward of 4:1, while Ties of 4-10 only pay 2:1

If you have an active Player or Banker bet and the round results in a Tie, 90% of your Player/Banker bet stake is returned to you. However, this does not apply to the 50% fee you had to pay to cover the Lightning bonus.

Lightning Numbers

After the betting period ends, a single side of the dice is randomly selected as a Lightning Number. It’s assigned a random multiplier between 2x and 8x.

You can see the current Lightning Number and its multiplier for the round at the bottom left corner of the screen.

If you win a bet whose corresponding side contains one or more dice showing the Lightning Number, the payout you receive is increased by the displayed multiplier. This sounds more complicated than it is, so we’ll illustrate with an example.

Let’s say you place a Player bet. The Lightning Round begins and awards a 2x multiplier of dice with 5 pips. The dice are rolled, and the Player rolls 5 and 4 while the Banker rolls 4 and 2. Your Player bet wins this round because its total is higher than the Banker bet. However, the Player dice also shows a single 5. This means that you’ll win 2:1 instead of the standard 1:1 because the base 1:1 payout is multiplied by 2x.

These multipliers stack multiplicatively if you hit more than one Lightning Number. For example, if the above example resulted in a 5 and 5 for Player, your total payout would be 4x.

Tie bets can be multiplied by all four bets, which means they can offer potentially massive Prizes. If all four dice show a Lightning number with an 8x multiplier, the maximum potential payout for a Tie bet is 1,200x.

Importantly, a 50% fee is applied to all bets in Lightning Bac Bo to cover the increased payouts offered by Lightning bonuses. This fee is mandatory for all bets and is not taken into account when calculating payouts.

Lightning Bac Bo Strategy Tips

When it comes down to it, Lightning Bac Bo is purely a game of chance by design. It’s also a very straightforward game, which means players don’t have a lot of choices that impact gameplay.

With that in mind, we can’t really offer a lot of advice on how to win Lightning Bac Bo. However, we can offer some tips and observations that can help you get the most out of your time with it.

  • The main Player and Banker bets are completely identical in terms of odds, payouts, and probability. In other words, you should just go with your gut if you’re deciding which of them you want to play – unlike Baccarat, there’s no inherent advantage to picking one over the other.
  • However, the Tie bet is significantly worse than Player/Banker in terms of RTP. It offers 95.52% RTP, compared to the 98.87% RTP of Player/Banker.
  • That said, 95.52% RTP is still a significant improvement over Tie bets in baccarat, which often offer under 86%. Moreover, Tie bets can offer much higher rewards because they are much more likely to feature multiple Lightning Numbers at the same time. This makes them a viable option, just not an optimal one in terms of long-term returns.
  • You can’t bet on Player and Banker at the same time. However, you can place a Tie bet and a Player or Banker bet in the same round.
  • Tie results are a lot more common than in standard Baccarat. This means that many progression systems, such as the Martingale, don’t really work because your chances of winning are much lower than 50%. However, since 90% of your Player/Banker bet is returned to you on a Tie, these bets still maintain a very high RTP.
  • Additionally, the game’s simple rules and statistics mean that it’s relatively easy to manage your money. We recommend using the same stake in every round and focusing on small Player/Banker bets.
  • There is no way to avoid the 50% fee – all bets can potentially be multiplied by Lightning Numbers, every time. If you want to avoid the fee (and the multipliers), just play the standard Bac Bo game.

Pros and Cons of Lightning Bac Bo by Evolution

Pros Cons

✅ Unique core gameplay that relies on familiar baccarat rules but makes them simpler

✅ Random multipliers that stack with each other, offering payouts up to 1,200x

✅ High overall RTP for all basic types of bets, reaching up to 98.87%

✅ Straightforward and easy to pick up and play despite being a fully unique concept

❌ 50% standard fee on all bets, which can make losing streaks particularly painful

❌ In practice, multipliers rarely reach more than 2x, so most payouts are relatively low, especially once you factor in the 50% fee

❌ Tie bets have a significantly lower RTP of 95.52%

❌ Does not fundamentally change the experience of playing the original Bac Bo

Payouts

As noted above, all three bets follow the paytable unless they’re affected by Lightning Numbers. Player/Banker bets pay even money, while Tie bets pay between 2:1 and 4:1 depending on the specific result:

  • If both sets of dice show a total value of 2 or 12, the Tie bet pays 4:1
  • If the winning result is 3 or 11, the Tie bet pays 3:1
  • In all other cases (total values of 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10), the Tie bet pays 2:1

All bets can also be affected by more than one multiplier, in which case they multiply each other. This means that Tie bets have a significantly higher maximum multiplier because they can be affected by up to four multipliers at once.

However, it’s crucial to remember that every bet is affected by a 50% fee, whether there are winning Lightning numbers or not.

The table below shows the base payout, RTP, and maximum potential Lightning Multiplier for every type of bet in Lightning Bac Bo.

Bet Base Payout Maximum Multiplier RTP
Lightning Bac Bo Paytable
Player 1:1 64x 98.87%
Banker 1:1 64x 98.87%
Tie 2:1, 3:1, or 4:1 1,200x 95.52%

Lightning Bac Bo RTP & House Edge

According to Evolution’s information, Player and Banker bets offer an RTP rate of 98.87%. This figure is identical to the Banker bet in standard baccarat, which is considered very high by most gambling game standards.

In other words, Player and Banker bets are excellent bets for your bankroll, especially in the long turn. However, they don’t really offer high individual payouts. Multipliers higher than 2x or 3x are very rare in practice.

Tie bets offer an RTP rate of 95.52%. This rate is merely decent by most casino game standards. However, it’s also much better than the Tie bet in baccarat, and this wager can offer much better rewards. As a result, the Tie bet can be worth a shot, but we recommend most beginners stay away from it.

Interface & Usability

The game UI is practically identical to the one found in the original Bac Bo. It’s a simple game with a simple betting scheme, so the interface itself is also incredibly straightforward.

There are only three betting options which can be placed using three buttons – Player on the left, Banker on the Right, and Tie in the middle. To place any bet, simply select the size of your stake and place it on the corresponding position. The game will also tell you how much you’ll need to pay in total once the 50% fee is factored in.

Unlike Lightning Roulette, the Lightning round is not displayed as part of the studio set or anything fancy like that. You’ll simply see the multiplier in the bottom left without too much fanfare.

The bottom right corner contains the traditional stats and data. It shows the winning percentages for all three bets during the previous 100 rounds. It also contains a Small Road scoreboard, which will be familiar to baccarat players. Its main purpose is to track results and highlight streaks of winning results. You can learn more about it in our guide to baccarat scoreboards.

Presentation & Live Dealer Experience

In typical Evolution fashion, the game’s studio and overall visuals look great. That said, the whole presentation is closer to a classic Baccarat table than a big, showy title like Lightning Roulette.

For example, there are only two camera angles – a wide shot looking over the whole table and a top-down view of the dice. Moreover, the game doesn’t really offer a lot of spectacle like what we’ve seen in a few other titles in the Lightning Family. The Lightning Round is strictly an on-screen visual effect.

Similarly, the presenters act more like classic croupiers than game show hosts. They announce the results and engage the audience, but don’t focus on hyping up bonuses and special features. As a result, Lightning Bac Bo is a relatively relaxing experience that will appeal to fans of classic Baccarat.

Languages

  • New live casino games like Evolution Bac Bo rarely come with native-speaking tables. Currently, only an English-speaking table is available – though that may change in the future.
  • As it stands, you can expect the typical range of UI languages in Evolution games. This includes English, Albanian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Our Verdict

Lightning Bac Bo is exatly what we thought it would be, considering we enjoyed the original Bac Bo quite a bit. That said, players should sill be aware of the game’s advantages and limitations.

On one hand, the core gameplay is simple, exciting, and beginner-friendly. The Lightning Numbers partly solve the issues we had with the original, which is that it lacked excitement, which meant all rounds started to feel the same after a bit. The bonuses add that element of volatility that makes you want to play it more, but it’s not a perfect solution.

For starters, we can’t say we love the idea of fixed fees. Especially when they’re as high as 50%. While the game’s math model is generally excellent, the feeling of having to spend half your bankroll on fees that don’t directly influence your winnings is not pleasant.

On the bright side, 98.87% RTP is excellent by any standard. The only reason Evolution managed to keep it so high is that they added the fees instead of tampering with the game’s paytable. As such, our complaint mostly comes down to the experience of playing Lightning Bac Bo instead of any actual issues with the math model.

All things considered, though, we had a lot more fun with Lightning Bac Bo than the original, so we can safely recommend it as a quirky and interesting yet highly accessible live casino game.

How We Rate Live Casino Games

Our game reviews and ratings are based on a strict set of standards. These standards were developed over many years of playing and analyzing live dealer games of all sorts. Here are some of the key factors we consider before giving our recommendation:

  • Graphics & Stream Quality – Although visuals are not the most important factor, they certainly matter. Good-looking games create a better and more immersive atmosphere. Moreover, the game’s graphics can set it apart from the competition.
  • UI and User-Friendliness – Well-designed games have intuitive interfaces that are easy to use and access. Our reviews also consider any additional UI elements such as betting options, performance settings, stats and histories, and more.
  • Payouts & RTP – How much your bets win is crucial for determining a casino game’s quality. A higher RTP is always better for us as players, making RTP one of the most objective ways to rate how good a particular game is.
  • Gameplay – This refers to how the game actually plays – whether it’s exciting, fun, engaging, and whether we’ve actually enjoyed playing it. This is extremely important for unique products such as Lightning Bac Bo
  • Extra Features – This refers to any added features, such as additional bonuses or UI elements. In this case, the Lightning Bonuses are the game’s defining feature and key gameplay element
  • Platform compatibility – We also rate how well a game performs on mobile devices, apps, etc.
  • Localization and Native-speaking Tables – Games with a lot of language options are more accessible to international audiences, which is why we consider such features as well.
