Fish Prawn Crab Live: Our Review, How and Where to Play

!DISCLOSURE
SA Gaming by SA Gaming

Fish Prawn Crab Live is an online, live dealer version of a Chinese dice game brought to online casinos by SA Gaming. The game is based on predicting the outcome of a roll of three dice. However, unlike in most other dice games like Sic Bo or Craps, the dice are covered in animal symbols such as crabs, roosters, and prawns. This makes the game unique in today’s online casino landscape, but still quite similar to Sic Bo. Despite its uniqueness, SA Gaming Fish Prawn Crab suffers from low RTP and dated graphics, which probably means that it’s a fairly niche product.

This review of SA Gaming Fish Prawn Crab will tell you everything you need to know about the game’s rules, betting options, payouts, and odds. We’ll also cover some basic strategy considerations and offer our opinion on whether the game is worth playing and what types of players will enjoy it most.

Fish Prawn Crab, otherwise known as Hoo Hey How, is a Chinese dice game played with a set of special dice covered in mostly animal symbols. It’s a fairly simple game based on predicting which side the dice will land on (much like any gambling game that involves dice). It features a straightforward game loop and a relatively basic set of bets that are easy to understand even for complete beginners. However, its concept is very old and very widespread. For example, it is related to Bầu cua cá cọp in Vietnam and Klah Klok in Cambodia. By most accounts, such games were spread throughout Asia and the rest of the world by the British Royal Navy as Crown & Anchor.

SA Gaming created this live online version of Fish Prawn Crab in 2025, and it’s one of the first attempts to do so ever. Opus Gaming used to have its own Fish Prawn Crab table, but it mostly worked as a re-skinned version of Sic Bo. However, Opus Gaming’s lineup of live tables is currently defunct, which makes SA Gaming’s take one of the only ways to play Fish Prawn Crab online.

While SA Gaming’s version is certainly more true to the original, the actual game still mostly just feels like Sic Bo. The bets are pretty much identical to Single, Double, and Any Triple bets you would find in Sic Bo, except that they have worse payouts. Only the Triple Color bet is actually completely unique.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, though. Let’s start by explaining how the game works in the first place, after which we’ll move on to the stats and odds.

How to Play Fish Prawn Crab

As we already mentioned, Fish Prawn Crab is almost identical to Sic Bo barring a unique bet or two. The basic rules and gameplay will be immediately familiar to anyone who tried Sic Bo in the past. If not, we recommend our Sic Bo tutorial.

The gist of the game is simple: in every round, the presenter shakes three identical dice. Players try to predict the results of this dice throw through various bets, which are available on the betting interface.

Unlike standard pip dice, Fish Prawn Crab have a different plant or animal symbol on every side. Additionally, these symbols are divided into blue, green, and red colors. Every color is represented by two distinct symbols. The symbols are as follows:

  • Fish – red
  • Rooster – red
  • Prawn – green
  • Crab – green
  • Tiger – blue
  • Calabash (bottle gourd, a type of vegetable) – blue

The dice are shaken by an automated machine, which allows for more fairness and consistency. A single throw produces three results, after which any winning bets are paid out and a new round begins.

Fish Prawn Crab Bets

SA Gaming’s version of the game offers four types of bets, and every type of bet typically has multiple betting options.

  • Specific Symbol (singles) – This bet wins if the selected symbol appears on at least one of the three dice. It pays 1:1 if the chosen symbol hits once, 2:1 if it appears twice, and 3:1 if all three dice show the symbol. This wager is mechanically identical to the Singles bet in Sic Bo.
  • Specific Double – Only wins if a specific combination of different symbols appears. For example, if you select a Fish/Tiger Double, your bet wins if at least one Fish and one Tiger show on the dice. It pays 5:1. There are 15 available combinations in total, accounting for every possible pair.
  • Any Triple (symbol) – Wins if all three dice show the same symbol, regardless of which symbol it is. Pays 30:1.
  • Any Triple (color) – Wins if all three dice are of the same color. This means it’s much more likely to win than the other Any Triple, and it’s the only bet for which the color of the symbols is relevant. Pays 7:1.

You can make any bet or combination of bets in every round with no restrictions.

Fish Prawn Crab Strategy Tips

This game is clearly completely based on luck, so there isn’t much room for strategy. If you want to learn how to get the most out of Fish Prawn Crab, consider some of these points:

  • SA Gaming’s official info tells us that the game’s RTP is 92.13% at most. As far as we can tell, this only applies to the Singles bet, which is the best bet you can make. The other options are even worse.
  • In other words, the game’s house advantage is huge and impossible to overcome, no matter your strategy.
  • It’s entirely possible to cover pretty much every possible result by making multiple Single or Double bets. However, you would need to spend much more on stakes than you could ever win back, which makes this an unviable strategy.
  • In practice, the best strategy for this game is to just go play Sic Bo instead. It offers more betting options with bigger RTP rates, even though it’s functionally identical.
  • Beyond that, the most you can do to improve your results is manage your money properly.

Pros and Cons of Fish Prawn Crab by SA Gaming

Pros Cons

✅ Unique concept in today’s live casino landscape

✅ Four types of bets, some of which have multiple betting options

✅ Any Triple (color) bets are not available in comparable Sic Bo tables

✅ Intuitive UI with advanced features and detailed stats/histories

✅ Simple, accessible gameplay

❌ Fundamentally identical to Sic Bo in most ways

❌ Most of the best are just Sic Bo bets with worse odds and lower payouts

❌ Poor RTP across the board

Payouts

Every bet in Fish Prawn Crab Live pays a fixed reward based on its type. All wagers of a single type pay the same, regardless of the individual selections. For example, it doesn’t matter which Specific Double you select because all of them pay exactly 5:1.

As always, the more likely a bet is to win, the more it pays. Most of the paytable is similar to what you would find with corresponding bets in standard Sic Bo. However, there are some discrepancies, which is why Fish Prawn Crab has a higher house edge than Sic Bo.

  • Specific Symbol bets only pay 3:1 on a Triple result, while Single bets in Sic Bo pay 12:1 for the same outcome.
  • Specific Double bets are analogous to Combination bets in Sic Bo. However, in this game they pay 5:1, while Sic Bo pays 6:1 for the same probability.
  • Any Triple is the same as in standard Sic Bo.
  • Any Triple Color is the only wager that can’t be found in Sic Bo.

You can find a complete Fish Prawn Crab paytable below for easy reference:

Bet Outcome Payout
Specific Symbol 1/3 dice 1:1
2/3 dice 2:1
3/3 dice 3:1
Specific Double Win 5:1
Any Triple (symbol) Win 30:1
Any Triple (color) Win 7:1

RTP & House Edge

Unfortunately, SA Gaming hasn’t provided the exact statistical data for every bet in Fish Prawn Crab. However, we can make some conclusions based on what we know about the game and about Sic Bo stats.

  • The Specific Symbol has 92.13% RTP. Note that this is considerably lower than a Single bet in Sic Bo, which offers 96.3%.
  • The Specific Double symbol has 83.33% RTP. Some Sic Bo tables offer identical odds, while others pay 6:1 for 97.2% RTP.
  • The Any Triple (symbol) bet has 83.8% RTP, which is identical to Sic Bo.
  • We don’t know the exact figures for the Any Triple (color) bet. The only thing we can say for sure is that its RTP is lower than 92.13%.

This breakdown should make it clear why we found the game to be generally disappointing. Mosty players would be better off just enjoying a live Sic Bo table since it offers most of the same wagering options.

Interface & Usability

The game’s betting interface is fairly impressive with multiple customization options and plenty of stats and histories to examine. For example, the betting table itself is available in multiple sizes and can be adjusted on the fly to fit your current needs.

That said, there’s a small bit of unintuitive design here, and it has to do with Specific Double bets. There are 15 options in total, but they don’t all appear the same way on the UI itself. Some of them are made by clicking a small bar located between the symbol positions. For example, if you want to make a Crab/Fish Double Bet, you click the bar button between these two positions. However, if the positions are not connected (such as, for example, crab and prawn), the corresponding Double bet is in a separate button on the side. It’s not bad design, it just took us a while to figure out why we’re only seeing 8 doubles instead of 15.

Beyond that, the table on the left shows the exact results for the previous 10 rounds. You can expand it to include up to 200. Conversely, the window to the right holds statistical info on the winning percentages of every symbol.

Graphics & Presentation

SA Gaming’s releases have never been the most visually advanced, but they have been making solid improvements in recent years. The interface itself looks a lot more modern than it used to, for example.

However, the stream itself is not of the highest quality compared to what some other software providers are able to put out. It’s a stable stream with solid performance, but the studio is rather bland, and the image itself is a bit blurry thanks to poor lighting.

We should stress that we’re being nitpicky here. The game looks good even in this day and age. However, compared to the highest standards of live casino games, it’s not exactly impressive.

Languages

  • Currently, SA Gaming Fish Prawn Crab tables are presented in English, which is the only language the dealers use.
  • However, you can change the language of in-game text using the settings menu. Your options include English, Tagalog, Cantonese, Mandarin, Thai, Vietnamese, Hindi, Indonesian, Malay, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, and others.

Our Verdict

In principle, we’re always glad to see new types of games available in live casino format. However, this SA Gaming release leaves a bit to be desired.

Let’s start with the good. The game looks pretty good and runs well, and offers a relatively faithful interpretation on the classic dice game. While most of the bets work as they do in Sic Bo, there are still some wholly unique options that can feel fresh and novel.

We’re also impressed with the overall functionality of the interface and its many options and features. The game feels intutivive to play even though it will seem alien to most players at first glance.

However, we have to talk about the elephant in the room: the odds. As we’ve discussed at length, many of these bets have the same probability of winning as similar bets in Sic Bo but with strictly lower payouts. This results in a terrible RTP rate that barely goes above 92%, which is very low by any standard.

SA Gaming could make Fish Prawn Crab a lot more attractive if they upped the payouts and improved the overall math model. As it stands, it’s just a speciality game whose novelty will quickly wear off once you notice how quickly it can decimate your bankroll.

How We Rate Live Roulette Games

Here at Livecasinos.com, how we rate casino games is based on a strict set of standards that were developed over many years of playing and analyzing live dealer games of all sorts. Here are some of the key factors we consider before giving our recommendation:

  • Graphics & Stream Quality – Although visuals are not the most important factor, they certainly matter. Good-looking games create a better and more immersive atmosphere. Moreover, the game’s graphics can set it apart from the competition.
  • UI and User-Friendliness – Well-designed games have intuitive interfaces that are easy to use and access. Our reviews also consider any additional UI elements such as betting options, performance settings, stats and histories, and more.
  • Payouts & RTP – How much your bets win is crucial for determining a casino game’s quality. A higher RTP is always better for us as players, making RTP one of the most objective ways to rate how good a particular game is.
  • Gameplay – This refers to how the game actually plays – whether it’s exciting, fun, engaging, and whether we’ve actually enjoyed playing it.
  • Extra Features – This refers to any added features, such as additional bonuses, multipliers, and UI elements.
  • Platform compatibility – We also rate how well a game performs on mobile devices, apps, etc.
  • Localization and Native-speaking Tables – Games with a lot of language options are more accessible to international audiences, which is why we consider such features as well.
