Few games have been as impactful on the live casino industry as Crazy Time by Evolution. Its monumental success set the stage for the live casino game show ‘genre’, which is currently considered to be among the most popular types of live dealer games. As such, it should be no surprise that Pragmatic Play is developing various competitors.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Pragmatic has attempted to do so. 2021’s Sweet Bonanza Candyland is one well-known example, which took many of Crazy Time’s ideas and repackaged them as a more colorful, less volatile experience. However, Sweet Bonanza Candyland was also full of original ideas that set it apart from many game shows at the time, including Crazy Time.

In contrast, Money Time is much more directly “inspired” by Evolution’s hit, to put it lightly. Not only is the name almost a direct reference, but the core gameplay elements, visuals, and bonus rounds are all a lot more similar, to the point of looking like a copy. Fortunately, Money Time does switch things up in some ways

For starters, its RTP is noticeably higher than Crazy Time. It also boasts a higher maximum payout and more overall volatility. Most of the bonus rounds are also mechanically unique and represent Money Time’s most distinguishing features.

How to Play Money Time Live

Fundamentally, Money Time plays the same as most wheel-based game shows.

It’s based around a large Money Wheel divided into 54 segments. Each of these segments corresponds to one of 8 bets that are available to the player. Some bets appear on many segments, while riskier wagers only appear on one or two.

In every round, the presenter spins the wheel, and a pointer at the top stops at one of the segments. The corresponding bet wins, and all players with an active wager on said bet receive a payout.

There are essentially two types of bets in Money Time: Number bets and bonus bets.

Number Bets

The Number bets are essentially the ‘main’ bets of Money Time. They offer instant, fixed rewards after a single spin.

For example, if you bet on the Number 1 bet and win, you get a 1:1 payout, and the round ends immediately.

Every Number bet is essentially named after its base payout. The Number 1 bet pays 1:1, the Number 2 bet pays 2:1, and so on. Bets with higher base payouts appear on fewer segments of the wheel, which makes them less likely to win.

There are four Number bets in Money Time. The table below shows their base payouts, color, and the number of segments they appear on.

Bet name Base payout Color Number of segments
1 1:1 White 23
2 2:1 Orange 11
5 5:1 Teal 7
10 10:1 Purple 4

Bonus Bets

If you place a bet on a Bonus round and the bet wins, a bonus minigame triggers, and you participate in it.

These bets all have varied rules and wide payout ranges. In other words, a bonus may pay a relatively small reward, or reach massive amounts if you’re lucky enough.

The table below lists some basic facts about these bonuses, after which we’ll discuss how each of them works in detail.

Bonus Round Name Number of segments Base payout – minimum Base payout – maximum
Cash Roll 4 1:1 100:1
Bank Heist 2 3:1 800:1
Coin Rush 2 5:1 500:1
Money Time 1 10:1 580:1

Cash Roll

The Cash Roll is the lowest-paying bonus round in Money Time, offering payouts of up to 100:1 (5,000:1 with the bonus booster). However, it’s the only bonus bet to appear on 4 segments of the wheel, which means it’s the most likely to trigger.

The Cash Roll bonus round presents players with 6 briefcases with different multipliers. Each case holds a different multiplier, ranging from 1x to 20x. Additional multipliers are applied to these initial rewards, but they can only go up to 100x.

After the prizes are decided, the presenter rolls a single, 6-sided die. The result of this roll determines which briefcase is awarded to players as a single, instant payout.

Bank Heist

The Bank Heist bonus round appears on two wheel segments and can pay up to 800:1 (40,000x with a bonus booster).

The bonus round features 16 boxes in a 4×4 grid. Each of these boxes is numbered and corresponds to one of 16 balls in a ball-drawing drum, the kind you would see in a game of bingo or a lottery.

The machine draws a single ball, which determines the outcome:

  • If the opened box is purple, it reveals a multiplier between 3x and 100x, which is awarded to all participating players as an instant payout
  • If the opened box is gold, it increases the multipliers in all other boxes by either 2x or 4x, and another ball is drawn. It’s possible for both gold boxes to be opened in a single round, boosting all Bank Heist payouts by a total of 8x.

Coin Rush

The Coin Rush bonus round appears on two wheel segments and can pay up to 500:1 (25,000:1 with a bonus booster).

The round presents players with an 8×8 grid of coins, all of which contain multipliers of either 5x, 7x, 10x, 20x, 25x, 50x, or 100x. As soon as it begins, the coins are flipped and shuffled, so you can’t know which coin contains which prize.

Your job is to blindly pick one of these coins, revealing your prize for the round. All players get to pick their own coins, which means different participating players get different rewards.

After you pick your coin, five additional 5x multipliers will fall down from the top of the grid. If one of them lands on your coin, its payout for the round is multiplied by 5.

Money Time

The Money Time side bet only appears on a single wheel segment. IT’s the least likely to trigger, but offers the highest average payouts, ranging from 10:1 to 580:1 (29,000:1 with the bonus booster).

The bonus round features a massive slot machine with 3 columns of multipliers: red, green, and blue. Each segment of each column shows a different multiplier, ranging from 10x to 500x.

At the beginning of the round, all participating players pick one of the three colors. The slot machine spins and lands on a row of multipliers that shows one red, one green, and one blue reward. You win a payout based on the multiplier shown by the winning segment of the color you chose.

The slot machine can also potentially land on a ‘respin’ segment. If that happens, the multipliers from the winning row are added to a reward pool, and the slots spin again. However, all respin segments are removed from the column that contained the winning respin.

Up to 3 respins can trigger during a single Money Time round.

Bonus Booster

At the beginning of every Money Time round, a small 2-reel slot machine spins.

One reel lands on a bet type (either Numbers or Bonus bets), while the other lands on a multiplier between 2x and 50x.

All payouts offered by the bet on the left reel in that particular round are multiplied by the amount displayed on the right reel. The booster can thus significantly improve any reward in the game, provided you’re lucky enough.

Stats & Betting Options

We’ll round things off by providing a complete breakdown of every bet in Money Time by Pragmatic Play.

The table below shows every type of bet available, its base payout, and its potential Bonus Booster payout. It also tells you how likely the bet is to win any round, as well as its RTP.

Strategy Considerations

  • All game shows are completely based on luck, Money Time included. The best strategy for live casino game shows is to simply bet on bets with the highest RTP.
  • Money Time has the unique advantage of having consistent RTP rates across the board. That means that you can (and should) place any bet that seems like fun to you.
  • The bonus rounds are attractive due to their entertainment value and potential for high payouts. However, we advise using both Numbers and Bonus bets to protect your bankroll.
  • Although the bonus rounds have high payout potential, they’re also extremely volatile. That means that rewards rarely exceed 20-50x.

Example Strategy

Our favorite strategy for game shows like Money Time is to combine the safest bets in the game with the riskiest (i.e the bonus bets).

Split your total stake for the round into 8 equal units. Then, place them as follows:

  • 4 units on the Number 1 bet. This is your “safety” wager that keeps your bankroll topped up thanks to its high win probability and RTP. If it wins, you win 8 units, which covers your expenses for the round. If the Number 1 bet is boosted by the Bonus Booster, you have an extremely high chance of winning this increased payout.
  • 1 unit each on every bonus round. This gives you access to all of the game’s fun rounds and features, and can allow you to collect massive prizes.

This approach ensures you’re enjoying everything Money Time has to offer while keeping your bankroll relatively safe and topped up.

Payouts

We have already covered how all payouts work in Money Time. However, we’ll list them all in the table below for easier reference.

Bet Base Payout Payout /w Booster
Money Time Live Paytable
1 1:1 2-50:1
2 2:1 4-100:1
5 5:1 10-250:1
10 10:1 20-500:1
Cash Roll 1-100:1 2-5,000:1
Bank Heist 3-800:1 6-40,000:1
Coin Rush 5-500:1 10-25,000:1
Money Time 10-580:1 20-29,000:1

House Edge & RTP

Money Time has a house edge of 96.55% to 96.56%, depending on the bet in question.

Broadly speaking, this is a fairly high RTP rate compared to most other game shows. For reference, the famous Crazy Time has an RTP that ranges between 94.04% and 96.08%.

In other words, Money Time’s house edge is generally lower than in most other games of this type. It’s also a lot more consistent with smaller differences between bets, which ensures every available wager is equally useful.

The RTP of various bets in Money Time live by Pragmatic Play is as follows:

  • 1: 96.55% RTP
  • 2: 96.56% RTP
  • 5: 96.56% RTP
  • 10: 96.55% RTP
  • Cash Roll: 96.55% RTP
  • Bank Heist: 96.30% – 96.56% RTP
  • Coin Rush: 96.25% – 96.55% RTP
  • Money Time: 96.36% – 96.56% RTP

Pragmatic Play’s official information lists that three of the four bonus bets have a range of possible RTP values. However, we’re not sure why those ranges exist. One explanation is that their high volatility gives them a bigger standard deviation, which may result in slightly different average RTP outcomes during testing. Nevertheless, it’s a fairly low house edge compared to most live casino game shows.

Interface & Usability

The game’s interface is exactly what you would expect it to be – it’s just 8 buttons that correspond to the 8 available bets. Everything is fairly easy to use and understand, which is always a good thing when it comes to UI.

You can see the results of the previous 50 rounds or so at the bottom of the screen. There’s also a ‘stats’ button which offers more details, such as bet winning statistics. This info is not particularly useful in terms of strategy, but it offers some insight into the game’s probabilities.

Pragmatic also offers a standard Autoplay feature, which allows you to set up a bet or combination of bets and have the game repeatedly make them in every round. It’s a handy feature, but it’s quite standard these days. The menu buttons at the top offer the usual range of audio/video settings, language options, and a live chat box.

Graphics & Visuals

The game’s looks are a bit of a mixed bag, but not because they’re ugly or poorly made. On a technical level, Money Time is beyond excellent. It streams in full HD with solid, consistent quality and no lagging or glitching. The camerawork is also fairly complex and immersive, with multiple angles, running shots, and a number of other effects used to bring the whole game to life.

Every bonus round also gets its own special screen, which is typically a combination of computer-generated graphics and physical studio props. These visuals do a good job at making these bonuses pop and give Money Time that game-show “feel” that so many players enjoy.

However, the studio is almost identical to the one in Crazy Time. In fact, the backdrops and props are probably the biggest similarities between these two games. Pragmatic probably could have thought of something more original.

Worse still, the studio looks like Crazy Time, but everything is just slightly off, with fewer details and fun props. We’re nitpicking here, but the differences are hard to ignore because Pragmatic decided to make the studio so strikingly similar, but slightly worse.

Live Dealer Experience

On top of graphics and rules, live casino game show also have an established presentation style, and Money Time is a perfect example of what it looks like.

The presenters aren’t there merely to spin the wheel and announce results. Instead, their main job is to engage the audience, hype up big bonus rounds, and generally create a sort of TV show atmosphere. They’re energetic, talkative, and pay a lot of attention to what’s going on in the chat room.

As a result, Money Time feels quite engaging and exciting, which is a marker of a true premium-quality game show.

Languages

  • Only a single live Money Time table is currently available with Pragmatic Play, and it’s presented entirely in English
  • That said, you can still change the language of the UI in the settings menu. Available options include Bulgarian, Chinese, Danish, English, French, German, Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese, and more.

Our Verdict

In most regards, Money Time Live is an excellent live dealer game show with a top-notch presentation and engaging bonuses and features. However, some of the decisions Pragmatic made during its productions are quite baffling.

Throughout our testing and review, we couldn’t help but keep comparing it to Crazy Time. Although this might seem a bit unfair, Pragmatic practically invited this comparison by naming and designing the game as they did.

To be fair, though, most of the similarities are quite superficial. The name and studio design come to mind, as well as the Coin Rush bonus round. The other bonus rounds have their own unique mechanics.

It’s easy to dismiss these mechanical differences as irrelevant – most bonus rounds are just random RNG outcomes with different packaging. However, the same applies to pretty much every beloved game show out there: the money wheel and bonus features are always almost identical, while the bonus round mechanics and visual design are where these games’ unique elements come to the forefront.

In that regard, Money Time is more original than many seem to give it credit for. However, we also can’t really blame anyone for thinking otherwise, and Pragmatic seems to be quite on-the-nose about their inspirations.

Nonetheless, Money Time is a well-made casino product with engaging gameplay and a higher RTP than most other games of this style. That alone earns it a high rating, even though we would have liked to see more creativity from Pragmatic.

How We Rate Live Casino Games

Here at Livecasinos.com, how we rate casino games is based on a strict set of standards that were developed over many years of playing and analyzing live dealer games of all sorts. Here are some of the key factors we consider before giving our recommendation:

  • Graphics & Stream Quality – Although visuals are not the most important factor, they certainly matter. Good-looking games create a better and more immersive atmosphere. Moreover, the game’s graphics can set it apart from the competition.
  • UI and User-Friendliness – Well-designed games have intuitive interfaces that are easy to use and access. Our reviews also consider any additional UI elements such as betting options, performance settings, stats and histories, and more.
  • Payouts & RTP – How much your bets win is crucial for determining a casino game’s quality. A higher RTP is always better for us as players, making RTP one of the most objective ways to rate how good a particular game is.
  • Gameplay – This refers to how the game actually plays – whether it’s exciting, fun, engaging, and whether we’ve actually enjoyed playing it.
  • Extra Features – This refers to any added features, such as additional bonuses, multipliers, and UI elements.
  • Platform compatibility – We also rate how well a game performs on mobile devices, apps, etc.
  • Localization and Native-speaking Tables – Games with a lot of language options are more accessible to international audiences, which is why we consider such features as well.
