Roulette Bets – How Do They Work?
If you’re not familiar with how bets work in roulette, we recommend checking out this tutorial as well as our guide to bets in roulette.
However, we’ll go through them quickly below, also pointing out how to select each wager using the calculator’s UI. We’ve also included the base probability for each bet in European roulette.
Inside Bets
- Straight Up – 2.70% probability – Click on any single number to make a Straight Up bet, which covers a single number and pays a standard 35:1.
- Split – 5.40% probability – Click on the border between two numbers to make a Split bet, which covers two numbers and pays 17:1 if either of them wins.
- Corner – 10.80% probability – Click on a corner point between four numbers to make a Corner bet, which covers four numbers and pays 8:1 if any of them win.
- Street – 8.10% probability – Click on the far right border of the grid to place a Street bet, which covers the three numbers in a horizontal line to the left of the chips. This bet pays 11:1.
- (Six) Line – 16.20% probability – Click on the far right border of the grid at a corner point between a horizontal line and the vertical line (the border between two Street bets.) This wager covers 6 numbers and pays 5:1
- Basket – 10.80% probability – Click on the upper right corner of the number grid (between 0 and 1) to place a Basket bet, which covers 0, 1, 2, and 3. It pays 8:1 and covers 4 numbers, which makes it statistically identical to a Corner bet.
Outside Bets
- Red/Black – 48.60% probability – Click on the red or black squares on the left-hand side of the grid to place a Red or Black bet, respectively. These wagers win if the ball lands on a pocket of the corresponding color, paying 1:1.
- Odd/Even – 48.60% probability – Click on the ‘Odd’ or ‘Even’ positions on the left-hand side. These bets win if the winning number is either Odd (1, 3, 5, 7, 9…) or Even (2, 4, 6, 8, 10…), paying 1:1.
- High/Low – 48.60% probability – Click on the ‘1-18′ or ’19-36’ positions to make either of these wagers, which pay if the winning number is within the indicated 18-number range. The bet pays 1:1.
- Column – 32.40% probability – Click on one of the three positions at the bottom of the grid to make a Column bet. This bet wins if any of the numbers on the entire column above the position win, paying 2:1.
- Dozen – 32.40% probability – Click one of the three positions to the left of the main grid (‘1-12′, ’13-24′, or ’25-36’) to make a Dozen bet. This bet wins if any of the numbers in the indicated 12-number range win, paying 2:1.
Why Use Our Roulette Odds Calculator Tool?
The tool offers a lot of insight into the maths and statistics behind roulette. This is useful in several ways:
- It allows you to understand exactly how likely your bet is to win or to lose. This further allows you to compare the win probability to the implied probability of your wager, allowing you to calculate the house edge of any roulette game.
- It tells you the exact probability of any possible bet combination, regardless of how complex it is.
- It’s handy for beginners who don’t yet fully understand which bets cover which numbers, and why. The tool is a simple, safe space for you to practice placing different bets and seeing how their odds are combined.
- Win probabilities can further allow you to make projections for betting sessions. For instance, you can calculate how much you can expect to win and lose in a series of bets by simply applying the probabilities and expected payout. This allows you to better control your spending, which is useful as a money management tool.
- It allows you to improve and refine your roulette strategies over time. By adjusting the tool’s parameters, you can find the most efficient way to plan bets and allocate your gambling budget, keeping the risks to a minimum while optimizing your win probability.
- It’s handy for responsible gaming. Understanding the probabilities (and the return-to-player rate) is a crucial aspect of responsible gambling. The tool enables you to plan sessions and understand the risks, providing a clearer picture of the dangers associated with gambling and allowing you to manage them more effectively.
